Well, another long time Serious MX team rider has moved successfully from amateur racing to the AMA Pro level. Our Friend, Taylor Futrell, now #977, has raced in his first ever AMA Pro National this past Saturday at Budds Creek MX in Md. The weather was great for the first set of motos, but it rained hard the second set.
Taylor qualified easily with the second fastest time in his round of qualifying. Only Blake Baggett had a faster time.
Because of his very fast qualifying lap time, Taylor had a decent gate pick, just 4 bikes from the Starter box. He was lined up just 2 bikes from his long time racing friend, Broc Tickle. When the gate dropped on Taylors first ever AMA Pro National start, he was ready. He got a great drive off the gate and went thru the first turn in 7th place. He was holding his own on the first lap, with Factory riders in front And behind him. After clearing a tabletop Taylor hit a deep hole and crashed hard. He was not hurt, but took him a few kicks to start his Serious MX Triangle Cycles VPE Honda. Almost a 1/3 lap down, he took off to catch the pack. Well, catch them he did, working his way up to 22nd for the moto. His last lap time was as fast as his first!
The second moto was much different. It rained so much and so hard, it was like racing on a lake. Not as muddy as just pure wet. Lots of Water!. Taylor stayed up and rode a great moto finishing 8th in terrible conditions.
For the weekend, Taylor went 22/8 and finished 14th overall, gathering the first AMA Pro points of his career.
Other local riders were also racing this race, I'll get to their story asap, but this is Taylors first race, and this post is dedicated to a great kid, young man now, and an Excellent motocross rider with a very bright future. We are all very proud of you Taylor Futrell. We are behind you all the way!
